Installing Conservatory Roof Insulation

With winter approaching, many conservatories will be out of use due to how cold the room becomes, thanks to a lack of insulation. You can avoid this problem by installing roof insulation.

Before you start installing the insulation, you will need to have some ventilation in the conservatory to prevent any cases of damp or condensation.

Firstly you have to start with the support. A solid treated timber sub frame must be added directly to the roof beams. The sub frame follows the same pitch as the existing conservatory roof to ensure no loss of headroom and provides the support needed for the insulated quilt.

Next, secure the flexible quilt to the timber sub frame taking care that any joins and joints are taped and sealed and that every part of the roof is covered. Carefully using rolls of insulation which is around 60mm you have to cover the whole roof. The insulation will adjust in shape to fit the profile of your roof, so regardless if you have a high pitch or a low peak, the insulation will fit each and every outline.

Once the quilt has been added, the whole roof has to be covered with a second timber sub frame following the same pitch as the existing roof once more. This frame also fully secures the insulation quilt.
